With the Morton Feldman Project, Sabine Glenz continues her exploration of influential modernist composers. In her latest project, she develops an open choreographic structure for a long-duration performance set to Morton Feldman’s String Quartet No. 2 (duration: 5 hours).
The performance took place in December 2021 at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and was filmed from within the performance space using a rotating camera. Visitors were able to move freely throughout the rooms, thus becoming part of the recording. As a result, the recording is an essential component of the sound-space-image-dance installation currently being created in the large hall at WIESE.
The transformation of the live performance into a multimedia installation and the juxtaposition of the digital and the real lead to an intimate intertwining of various aspects of sound, body, space, and time, adding another subtle layer to them as the present and the past mirror one another just as digital and analog manifestations do. The walk-through installation, with its live interventions, is an invitation to experience time as an almost infinitely extended moment, as a shared spatial and physical movement.
